While society has emphasized orthodontia for a beautiful smile, ORTHODONTIC treatment is much more important than that. Children who have little or no dental care are 80% more likely to have teeth requiring some form orthodontia. A poor, uneven bite can result in pain for a child when eating, so a child will tend to have a poor diet, generally high in sugars. Brushing may also be painful. The ability to speak clearly and distinctly is important to overall learning.
Because of the growth of the orthodontic program, and the commitment to treatment that providers generously donate, only those who meet the stringent treatment requirements and strict income guidelines will have access to treatment for free. Alternative referral sources will be provided to those who either do not qualify or choose not to meet the criteria.
