For nearly twenty years, Glendale Healthy Kids has presented a comprehensive first grade dental education program. We are pleased to name this program after our long time supporters and benefactors, Art and Paula Devine. Paula was a long time member of the Board of Directors at GHK and Art served on the Finance Committee. Art, a retired civil engineer, and Paula, currently on the City of Glendale’s City Council, have been staunch supporters of health for our children. Paula is a retired Physical Education School teacher, so good health and health education are important.
We are grateful to Paula and Art for providing the funding to support this much needed program in our school district.
The Dental Education program provides oral health hygiene and nutrition information in First Grade classrooms throughout Glendale Unified School District. The program introduces children to the importance of oral health and hygiene, teaches proper brushing technique, encourages flossing and rinsing, teaches basic nutrition concepts for oral and overall health, and stresses the importance of regular dental exams. The program is taught by trained volunteers who teach from a prepared curriculum and lesson plan. It is composed of 3 modules, each in a fun and interactive format using puppets, cartoons and oversized dental gear!
The Dental Education program is also available to other schools and organizations upon asking. We have serviced many of the Head Start PreSchools with our program and will continue to service the oral health needs of our children in this community.
Please call (818) 548-7931 if you are interested in either becoming a trained dental education volunteer or would like to set up a program at your school or education site.
